Privacy Policy
Effective 30 July 2026 · United States
The short version. To match you, we collect your phone number, your profile, your personality result, and your answers to the questions Spy asks. That is the service; it cannot work without them.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never share your conversations for advertising. You can ask us to delete everything at any time and we will.
This summary is for convenience. The full policy below is what governs.
Spy LLC (“Spy”, “we”, “us”) runs an 18+ matchmaking service that works over text message. This policy explains what we collect when you use Spy or visit joinspy.ai, and what we do with it. It is written for the United States, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (“CCPA”) and the comparable laws of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and other states.
1. What we collect
What you give us
- Phone number — the service runs over text, so this is the account.
- Name and email, if you give them.
- Profile — age, gender, photos, a short bio, the values you pick, a song, and what you are looking for.
- Personality result — your answers to the nine-paragraph assessment and the tritype it produces.
- Conversations — messages you exchange through Spy, including your answers to the questions Spy asks periodically.
- Reports and feedback you send us.
What we collect automatically
- Delivery data — message timestamps and delivery status.
- Web data — if you visit joinspy.ai: IP address, browser type and pages viewed.
2. Sensitive information
Some of what Spy holds is “sensitive personal information” under the CCPA and similar laws: the fact that you use a dating service, who you want to meet, your personality result, and the content of your conversations. Some of what you tell Spy in answer to its questions may be personal in a way you would not want repeated.
We treat all of it with heightened care:
- We never use conversation content for advertising, and never sell it.
- Access inside our team is limited to what is needed to run the service and keep people safe.
- Where a service provider processes it, their contract forbids them from using it to train models or for anything other than providing the service to us.
Please only share what you are comfortable sharing. You can ask us to delete your conversation history at any time.
3. How we use it
- To run the service — deliver messages, remember context so you are not asked the same thing twice, and show your profile to people we match you with.
- To match you — using your personality result, values, preferences, age and answers. Decisions combine automated processing with human review.
- To improve it — understanding what works, fixing what does not. Where we can, we use de-identified or aggregated data for this.
- Safety — investigating reports, removing abusive members, preventing fraud and romance scams. If a conversation suggests a serious risk of harm, we may review it and, where we believe it necessary, pass limited information to emergency services.
- Legal — meeting our obligations and protecting our rights.
Parts of the service are AI-assisted, including the questions Spy asks and parts of the matching. Automated output can be wrong.
4. Text messaging
By giving us your number you consent to receive recurring automated texts from Spy. Frequency varies with your activity. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of any purchase.
Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe, or HELP for help. You will receive one confirmation and nothing after it. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. We keep consent and opt-out records for at least four years, as federal law requires. The full detail is in section 3 of the Terms.
Opting out is not deletion. STOP ends the messages; to remove your data, see section 7.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We disclose it only:
- To service providers under contract — messaging delivery, cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services), and AI processing. They may only use it to provide the service to us.
- To people we match you with — your profile, as it appears on your profile page. Never your phone number, unless you give it to them yourself.
- For legal reasons — when required by law or legal process, or to protect someone’s safety.
- In a business transfer — a merger or acquisition, where the buyer agrees to honour this policy, and with notice to you.
- When you ask us to.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold, correct it, delete it, get a portable copy, limit our use of sensitive information, and not be treated worse for asking.
We honour all of these for everyone, wherever you live, through privacy@joinspy.ai, and we respond within the time your state requires — 45 days under the CCPA, extendable once where the law allows. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front; we honour Global Privacy Control signals where they apply. Authorised agents may act for you with proof.
7. Keeping and deleting
We keep your information while your account is active.
Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, messages, matches and personality result. Request it at privacy@joinspy.ai or through the deletion request page. Residual copies in backups are purged on schedule.
Two things survive deletion, and both are required: records of your SMS consent and opt-out, which federal law makes us keep for four years, and limited records tied to a safety investigation or a legal obligation.
8. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest on AWS infrastructure, with access restricted to authenticated sessions and, internally, to the people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure. We will notify you and the regulators of a breach as state law requires.
9. Age
Spy is strictly 18+. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn a member is under 18 we close the account and delete the data. To report an underage user, email privacy@joinspy.ai.
10. Spy is not a medical or crisis service
Spy asks questions about how you think and what you value. It is not a therapist, a counsellor, a medical provider or a crisis service, and nothing you tell it creates a professional relationship or is protected health information under HIPAA.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. For material changes we will tell you by text (if you have not opted out) or email before they take effect, and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Spy after that means you accept them.
